Helping children build communication, emotional regulation, social understanding and reciprocal interaction through play
What is DIR®Floortime?
DIR® Floortime is a developmental, relationship-based approach that helps children build communication, thinking, emotional regulation, and social understanding through positive and joyful interactions.
Instead of teaching isolated skills, Floortime focuses on helping children become active, engaged communicators who are intrinsically motivated to connect with other people.
The approach is built around the idea that children learn best when they feel safe, understood, and emotionally connected.
Rather than asking,
"What behaviour do we need to change?"
Floortime asks,
"What is making connection difficult—and how can we help this child enjoy interacting with others and feel motivated to do so?"
